Taste the Harvest Season in Abbotsford

October 14, 2021

There’s no better time to visit the Fraser Valley than during the harvest season. Abbotsford is bursting with a bountiful harvest of pumpkins, apples, corn, squash, and so much more! Our local restaurants love to celebrate this time of year by using fresh produce from our local farms to create their own unique dishes for patrons to enjoy. Keep reading to see some great restaurants, cafés, and bistros recommendations you need to visit this fall to get the most of Abbotsford’s harvest season.

Field House Brewing Co.

Known for their locally crafted brews and distinctive ambiance, Field House Brewing Co.’s Canteen also provides some “dang good eats” to its visitors. Their current fall Farm Feature is their Eggplant Pizza, and you need to try their Beet Hummus & Veggie Board that is served with ingredients harvested from their own Field House Farms located in the valley! Their menu is always evolving as the seasons change, so be sure to revisit them all throughout the year to see what their next feature will be!

Little Sprout Café

If you’re searching for a special spot to grab a nutritious breakfast or lunch, you must check out Little Sprout Café, which was launched this past year by Communitas Supportive Care Society. They have a great selection of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options that are as yummy as they are beautiful to look at. They also grow their own microgreens in-house and integrate these nutritionally dense ingredients into most of the items on their menu! Some of our favourite dishes are their Herbed Mushroom Toast, the Ocean Smoothie Bowl, or their Burrito Bowl. We also love their mission “to make an abundant life accessible to all” by providing an inclusive work environment for people living with disabilities.

CoolRunnings Bistro

Even though we may not be traveling to warmer climates yet, we can still get a taste of those Caribbean flavours here in Abbotsford. CoolRunnings Bistro is a family-owned and operated restaurant located in the Matsqui flats that infuses traditional Jamaican dishes with locally sourced ingredients from farmers’ markets in the valley. Owners, Wayne and Cordel, who originally met in Jamacia, have over 20 years of experience cooking Caribbean dishes. They have also worked in the production industry for over 25 years, bringing Caribbean music festivals to the valley for many years, so you may be lucky enough to enjoy live reggae music performed by local musicians on their stage in their bistro. Some of their most popular dishes include their jerk chicken and pork combo, and we highly recommend trying their Pumpkin soup and handmade pineapple salsa!

They are currently only open to reservations, so be sure to plan ahead to check this place out!

Hugs in a Mug Coffee Bistro

When you need your morning dose of caffeine, Hugs in a Mug Coffee Bistro has become a favourite spot that locals go-to for coffee, lunch, and made-from-scratch baked goods! Owner, Katie, began operating this café last year after a change in careers gave her the opportunity to pursue the dream of running her own bistro and sharing her culinary skills with her community. Some of her most in-demand items include scones, tarts, and cinnamon buns, which are all baked fresh daily. The all day-breakfast menu offers so many options for breakfast lovers, and we loved trying the pesto chicken salad!

Another highlight of this bistro is that all the coffee beans they use to create their amazing drinks are locally roasted by Midnight Roasters here in Abbotsford. The freshly roasted taste truly can’t be beaten!

Brambles Bistro

For a unique brunch experience look no further than Brambles Bistro located in Tanglebank Gardens. This Mt. Lehman gem is known for their farm to table style menu with creative twists on breakfast favorites. Many of their dishes are created with fruits and vegetables that are collected straight from their gardens at the garden centre. We love their French Toast with spiced apple compote and you have to try their Brambles Orchard Salad with squash, pumpkin seeds, and a pear vinaigrette! Enjoy a delicious meal with a side of the beautiful scenery at Brambles!
