For many outdoor enthusiasts, the fall is one of the best times of the year! It’s not too hot, not too cold, and the colours are simply stunning! Whether you’re getting out for an early morning adventure and braving the crisp, cool air and its delicate fog, or you’re just catching the golden hour as the sun lights up mountains and the fall leaves, the outdoors is a spectacle that just may have you Falling for Abbotsford.

DAY ONE

Start your morning with a coffee at Hugs in a Mug Café! This comfortable neighborhood café offers a large menu of drink and food items and makes for a great place to stop before a day of fun outdoor adventures!

Willband Creek Park is your next stop and for birding enthusiasts, this BC Bird Trail location is a perfect place to be! This urban wetland on the Sumas Flats is a mixture of marsh, grassy field, and treed areas also containing a creek and two large water detention ponds. Enjoy the 2.6-kilometre outer trail, or one of the many interconnecting trails, and keep an eye out for great blue heron, northern shoveler, and belted kingfisher.

BRGR BRGR, a place so nice they named it twice! It’s also your lunch location for the day and we hope you’ve worked up your appetite because there are plenty of delicious options here. Burgers (obviously), fries, mac and cheese bites, chicken strips, local beer on tap and more fill the menu so you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy!

There’s nothing like being on the water in the crisp cool air of the fall when somehow the air you breathe feels cleaner and more refreshing than usual. Take your kayak, canoe, or SUP board for a leisurely paddle at the Barrowtown Pump Station boat launch and take in the beautiful fall scenes!

Even though we may not be traveling to warmer climates yet, we can still get a taste of those Caribbean flavours here in AbbotsfordCoolRunnings Bistro is a family-owned and operated restaurant located in the Matsqui flats that infuses traditional Jamaican dishes with locally sourced ingredients from farmers’ markets in the valley.

DAY TWO

You’re going to want to fuel up for a day of outdoor adventures and that means eating a hearty, healthy breakfast! The HABIT Project offers a great selection of jam-packed smoothies bowls, healthy treats and of course, smoothies, that will get your energy levels up to snuff for your first activity.

Test your wild side with some thrilling mountain biking on Sumas Mountain Regional Park where you’ll shred through some excellent trails! Before the winter weather hits, it’s great to get the most out of this adrenaline-pumping sport as you won’t be subject to the heat of summer but instead, the refreshing fall air. Or if you want to take your time and go at a more leisurely pace, you can wind your way up the mountain by venturing out on a scenic hike. Breathe in the cool, clean air that the trees and other plants that surround you pump into the ecosystem and naturally allow yourself to relax as you work your way up the mountain to incredible sights. Whether you’re racing down the trails or taking a nice walk up them, you’re going to love being on Sumas and you’re going to love the views of the Valley that you’re treated to even more!

With daily specials to choose from, having lunch at Lepp’s Farm Market is a given before heading to your next activity. Their cafe is located in the heart of the market and they offer a wide range products from specialty coffees, baked goods and sandwiches to an ever-changing selection of dinners to heat and serve at home. They use local ingredients as much as possible, including from their own farm & orchard so you know it’s going to be fresh!

There’s no better way to end your two-day outdoor adventure in Abbotsford than with a tandem skydive experience with Skydive Vancouver! Experience the thrill and excitement of free fall for 40-60 secs before the instructor then opens the chute for a 5-6 minute canopy ride down to a soft landing were you will then be able to pick up your jump certificate.
