Locally Sourced Holiday Eats & Treats

December 7, 2020

After a year unlike any other, many are looking for ways to support their communities, shop locally, and pivot how they are celebrating the holidays. Hopefully you have already considered shopping for gifts at smaller local retailers this year, but have you thought of doing the same for your holiday dinners and treats? Abbotsford is home to an abundance of local growers, makers, and more to make your holiday meals shine.

One Stop Shop

Visit one of our local farm stores to purchase everything you need for a quick weekday meal or a special occasion feast. Helpful staff at Lepp Farm Market can help you pick the perfect meats, cheeses, and accompaniments for a charcuterie board that will be the hit of your intimate household gathering. Neufeld Farms is a one-stop shop for fresh turkeys as well as premade side dishes for the big day. Find a large selection of organic veggies and grass fed meats at Nature’s Pickin’s that will take any meal to the next level.

Prefer to avoid busy stores this season? No problem! Local Food Supply is working with local suppliers to bring you a selection of curated meal ingredient bundles, pre-made dinners, or a la carte items for pick up or delivery. You can even order your full holiday turkey dinner with all the ingredients locally sourced! While you’re ordering check out their ‘Dare to Give Local’ campaign in partnership with Archway Community Services for a way to give back.

No shame here if you want someone else to take care of the cooking too! The newly renovated and rebranded Clarion Hotel & Conference Centre has brought back their extremely popular Christmas dinners to-go, fully cooked with all the fixin’s and ready to be picked up on December 23rd or 24th.

Sweet Treats

It wouldn’t be the holidays without an abundance of sweets everywhere you turn. Whether you need a plate of better than homemade cookies to gift to a friend, or chocolates to stuff a stocking, there are plenty of great options in Abbotsford.

Tracycakes Bakery Café has tons of delicious treat options to order this month. Large and small cookie platters, treat boxes, cupcakes and more are all great ways to tell a friend or family member that you are thinking of them this holiday season. Duft & Co Bakehouse also has cookie boxes as well as a limited edition holiday cake that is perfect for intimate bubble-friendly gatherings.

Known as the chocolate lovers “must have” chocolate, treats from ChocolaTas are an instant hit. With intriguing flavours such as chai masala, whiskey & pear, and much more, these are not your average box of Pot of Gold.

Cheers!

We can all agree that this has been a long year, and getting through 2020 deserves a toast (or several). Luckily, there’s not shortage of incredible craft beverages to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.

Grab a bottle of wine from one (or all 3) of our wineries in the Mt. Lehman neighbourhood to pair with your holiday dinner. We recommend a crisp white for your turkey: try Mt. Lehman Winery’s Pinot Gris, Singletree Winery’s Siegerrebe, or Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery’s Gewurztraminer.

Prefer beer? Our local breweries all offer seasonal brews, growlers and gift cards, perfect gifts for the beer lover in your life. Check out Field House Brewing, Loudmouth Brewing, Old Abbey Ales, and Raven’s Brewing for what’s on tap. Or if cider is more your thing, be sure to pick up some non-alcoholic and hard cider from Taves Estate Cidery, made with their own apples!

Christmas and cocktails go hand in hand, and New Wave Distilling makes unique spirits from fermented blueberries! Their cool bottles also make them a perfect gift. Try the Valley Nectar, infused with local elderflowers, or Alpen Glow, a coffee and chocolate infused liqueur. While you’re shopping for spirits you can also grab wine from Ripples Winery, on the same site!

For something different, pick up a bottle of award winning berry wine from Maan Farms Estate Winery, or a bottle of mead from Campbell’s Gold Honey Farm & Meadery. Both make excellent after dinner sips or dessert accompaniments.
