Discover Downtown Abbotsford
November 4, 2019
In one of Abbotsford’s oldest neighborhoods, you’ll find a thriving community of shops, restaurants, cafes and service providers. What was once the bustling city center of Abbotsford, the Historic Downtown area saw a period of decline through the ’90s but has since been revitalized and is enjoying a re-emergence as Abbotsford’s shopping and dining hub.
Visitors are encouraged to park their vehicles and take advantage of the walkability of Historic Downtown. The pedestrian-friendly streets are rich with history that can be read on plaques placed on the exteriors of specific buildings, take your time to stroll and read about what makes it a ‘historic’ downtown!
Along the streets of Historic Downtown, you will find an abundance of quaint, unique and locally-owned shops and boutiques, many carrying handmade local items. From bridal stores to kids’ toys, you’re sure to find everything you were looking for, and even a few things that you weren’t!
Some of our favourite shops include Hemingway’s Records and Books, Bureaux Modern Mercantile, Montrose & George General Store, Yes Chef, and Spruce Collective, just to name a few!
(Location: Bureaux Modern Mercantile)
All that shopping can wear you out, but luckily Historic Downtown is full of great cafes and restaurants. For a caffeine boost and some delectable baked goods, we recommend stopping by Tracycakes Bakery Café, Duft & Co Bakehouse, Oldhand Coffee, and The Polly Fox.
Looking for a healthy pick me up? The Habit Project offers cold-pressed juices, smoothie bowls, and delicious salad lunch bowls while sourcing all their ingredients locally.
(Location: Oldhand Coffee)
For dinner, Nine Kitchen and Lounge, offers wood-fired pizzas, delicious burgers, and a fantastic cocktail menu featuring unique drinks like the Montrose Martini or the Essendene Sour.
Bow & Stern is a popular destination for date night, dinner with friends and delicious seafood. Enjoy their extensive local beer, wine and cocktail list while you cozy up with some fish and chips or fresh oysters! Or take your pick of a variety of worldly dining options like Indian, Vietnamese, Thai, Italian, Japanese!
(Location: Bow and Stern)
Looking for something beyond eating and shopping? You can find that Downtown too! Grab some friends and try your luck at Countdown Escape Rooms or stop by Boardwalk Café & Games to play one of their over 300 board games while enjoying some snacks and beverages.
Historic Downtown is also home to the Abbotsford Farm & Country Market, Abbotsford’s original farmer’s market happening on Saturdays. Check out some of the fun events hosted year-round in the neighborhood too: The Wine & Art Walk happens in the spring and fall, Berryfest kicks off the summer, Jam in Jubilee keeps things happening throughout the summer months and Winter Jubilee celebrates the holiday season!
