Celebrate #BCWineMonth at Home!
April 9, 2020
As the spring weather arrives you may be longing for an afternoon spent sipping wine and touring wineries, enjoying a crisp white in the sunshine while laughing with friends. Unfortunately our current restrictions have limited us to staying inside our homes and yards for at least a little while longer. Lucky for us our talented and always creative Abbotsford vintners have thought up innovative ways for everyone to enjoy local wine and even a wine tour atmosphere right at home! Read on to see how you can celebrate #BCWineMonth this April from your own backyard.
Owned by the Siemens Family, Mt. Lehman Winery specializes in limited edition artisan wines, rooted in excellence and quality. Branded as a local favorite, and with 80 acres of red and white wine grape varietals, highlights include the Brawny Tawny and Vern Siemen’s favorites—the Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir Reserve.
During this time Mt. Lehman is taking orders and payment over the phone and wine can be picked up at their doorstep. You can also order boxes of 6 bottles or more for free local delivery! Check out their YouTube channel for a special wine tasting at home video with owner Vern, for a fun way to try and learn about wine in your living room.
Small batches of less than 3000 cases per year and always made with love. This award-winning family owned and operated winery offers a portfolio of wines that pay respect to the family’s deep farming roots. Their premium grapes showcase the aromatic and crisp flavors created by BC’s warm summer, mild winters, and nourishing soils with varieties like Siegerrebe and Grüner Veltliner.
While Singletree’s tasting room remains closed, their wines are still available for purchase online! You can do a curbside pick up or have 6 or more bottles shipped anywhere in BC for free. We recommend their 2018 Rose for a refreshing springtime sip.
It’s the chapel in the country—and Abbotsford’s newest winery—with the vision of cultivating, creating, and sharing ‘world class’ wines that whisper elegance and distinction. Balanced with richness and delicacy, feature wines include the Royal Engineers Petit Verdot, Landing Road Red Blend, and Sam and Isaac Pinot Gris.
We can’t wait to get back into Seaside Pearl’s quaint tasting room, but for now their wine is available from a Wine Drive Thru! Place your order online or over the phone and drive up to their property to have the wine placed in your vehicle.
The Fraser Valley is known for its high-yield berry-growing including strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. Ripples infuses its own antioxidant-rich farm-fresh blueberries, producing beautiful hand-crafted fruit wines. True to most wineries in Abbotsford, Ripples is family owned and operated. Top picks include Intemperance, Antheia, a port-style fortified wine, and the fruit wine Cupere.
Place an order online for any of Ripples wines or New Wave’s spirits and pick up on the weekends between 10am and 5pm. In addition to distilling amazing spirits, New Wave has been able to make large batches of hand sanitizer which they have been giving out for free to any healthcare workers and frontline staff! Not a frontline worker but still want some hand sanitizer? They are including a free bottle with any wine or spirit purchase!
Farming for four decades, the Maans began growing premium strawberries and introduced themselves at a simple fruit stand. From a fruit stand to a fall destination, the Maan Estate Winery is their latest endeavor. From vine to glass, Maan Farms only uses high quality fresh fruit and processes with minimum sulfites. Varieties include a Strawberry/Raspberry blend, Blueberry, and Blackberry wines.
Mama Maan is operating her drive thru these days, serving up delicious Indian food, freshly baked cookies and, of course, wine! Order online and pick up on the farm. Prefer to stay home? They are offering Virtual Wine Tasting Packs which include 3 bottles of wine, access to an online tasting session and free delivery in the Lower Mainland! Tasting packs will change each week so there is always something new to try.
