The adventures in Canada continues! In Part 2, we explore more of the Fraser Valley, specifically Abbotsford and Langley. We kick off the day with a visit to the Waffle Bar at Krause Berry Farms & Estate Winery, followed by an impressive farm tour led by Loren of Taves Family Farm. So much play is infused in every area! We wander through a sunflower garden and pumpkin patch. Start your getaway Thursday night: launched this summer by the Valley Food and Farm Collective, the evening market in historic downtown Abby includes food trucks, a communal brew house, a local-food café, and live music. Lots of millennials moved away and came back to raise a family and start a business in the historic section.

For a growing number of Vancouverites like Vanderheide, Abbotsford is proving to be the perfect destination to raise a family and get a little breathing room from the downtown density — without being too far away.

Nestled in the Fraser Valley, this family-run orchard and farm is all about giving their visitors a taste of the country. Each fall, the Taves open the doors to their beloved Applebarn Pumpkin Farm to celebrate all that autumn has to offer.

Move over Okanagan, there’s another wine-luscious valley in the 'hood—and Vancouverites can even skip the lengthy drive to get there. Along with award-winning breweries, charming shops and Insta-ideal cafes, several wineries have popped up in the fertile Fraser Valley in recent years and, being the opportunists we are, a wine cycle circuit seemed only appropriate on a recent summer weekend.

Historic Downtown Abbotsford is a shopper’s paradise ranging from charming boutiques and vintage stores to housewares and sporting goods. There you’ll find specialty storeowners who are passionate about the hand-picked or hand-crafted items they sell.

Far too often we think that we have to travel far away to have incredible vacations when that couldn’t be further from the truth. I am here to change your mindset on staying local, taking a staycation, or planning a weekend getaway close to home. Each of these trips can offer incredible experiences you thought only possible by traveling to faraway places. Travel locally and I promise that you’ll see what I mean.

Even people who work in BC’s wine industry are surprised when they hear that the Fraser Valley is home to 40 wineries.

Most craft breweries put a lot of thought, effort and care into their beer but then the food they serve tends to be an afterthought. Not true at Field House Brewing in Abbotsford. This is one of the most fun places to go in the Fraser Valley with your s/o on a road trip!

In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve really been enjoying eating our way around Abbotsford lately. So here’s some good news if you’ve been doing the same, the city is launching its first-ever Abbotsford Fall Food Festival next month.

I was born and raised in the Lower Mainland, so a little rain never bothered me. That said, my partner and I were a little choked when our suburban adventure to Abbotsford was marked by an atmospheric river (and later, a thunderstorm—read on for details). But there’s plenty to do and eat and drink in Abby, even in a downpour.

Significantly less steep and crowded than its counterpart in North Vancouver, the Abby Grind is a short, steep and sweet trail that leads to an open rock face and gorgeous views over nearby farmland. Quarter-mile markers encourage you on your way up the dirt path (no stairs!).

If you’re looking for a summer getaway this season that doesn’t require an hours-long drive or flight, well, you might want to look just a little bit east. The Fraser Valley has become a destination for vacation-worthy activities — from wine tastings to farm experiences, not to mention first-class eateries and breweries — meaning there are plenty of reasons to stop, sip and stay in this locale.

Rural yet refined, the Fraser Valley is a bountiful harvest of wine, beer and farm-to-table dining.

A family farm in Abbotsford is hosting a festive goat yoga session where the furry critters will attend in Christmas outfits. The goats at Maan Farms bring an element of joy and playfulness to expand a yoga practice, according to operations manager Gurleen Maan.

Located in B.C.'s beautiful Fraser Valley, Abbotsford is a tight-knit community with fierce local pride—and so much amazing food. I was super excited to hear about a new festival the city is hosting called, ‘Taste of Abby'. Celebrating Abbotsford’s agriculture, history and food culture with live music and shopping, while eating and drinking local food from incredible chefs, sounded like a pretty good day out to me. The experience is a perfect kick-off to fall with unique dining experiences perfectly timed with the local harvest season.

The Fraser Valley, Canada’s agricultural mecca, is an exciting destination where you can discover delicious cuisine, perfect wines, upscale boutique hotels, and exciting outdoor adventures. My friend Laura and I recently road-tripped through three exciting cities in the Valley—Harrison Mills, Harrison Hot Springs, and Abbotsford.
